If you are in Nicaragua in January 2013 and are thinking of retiring, relocating or investing in Nicaragua and you only have one day to spare, you’re in luck. You can attend the Central American Advantage Investment Symposium for one day AND enjoy the lunch and a cocktail reception in the evening – a great opportunity for networking and building your business contacts in Nicaragua.
Day Two of the Conference in Managua will be of special interest to Americans living abroad. Morey Glaser and Joel Nagel, tax experts, will be speaking about the new HIRE Act – what you need to know now. Attendance for this special interest day for expats will cost only $69.00 for the entire day. For $69, you can’t go wrong considering the information and knowledge you will gain, a free lunch and the networking opportunities.
Recent estimates of US expats living abroad now reach 6,000,000. Of those, a large percentage don’t file, or don’t correctly file all the forms required by the IRS. They could face severe penalties and fines for not doing so. In the extreme it can be as high as $250,000 and 5 years in jail for non-reporting. Probably not likely for a simple mistake, but this the law and it’s on the books.
The new HIRE Act created a new form, the 8938 which requires that all foreign assets be reported with a few small exceptions. The US Treasury Department has a form for bank accounts, the TD-F 90-22.1, but it also requires that some insurance products and brokerage accounts be listed there. Who knew?
Tax experts Joel Nagel and Morey Glazer will be speaking in Nicaragua January 15-20 as part of a larger conference, the Central American Advantage Investment Symposium. They will be featured on Day-2 of the conference explaining in detail the new HIRE Act law, and the complex and changing regulations surrounding them. Expats living in Nicaragua are invited to attend just this part of the event for a substantially reduced rate of $69.00 for the day including lunch and a cocktail reception in the evening. Full conference registration for the 5-Day event is $399.00.
